Learning Through Doing: Models for Flipped PD

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Professional development for educators, while improving, is still often ‘stuck’ in traditional 1-hour lecture mode. This is particularly true for adult literacy practitioners and post-secondary education faculty. This situation needs to be flipped! Explore and discuss three models for training educators in the flipped learning approach piloted with adult literacy practitioners in the southeast during 2014-15. Using an inquiry-based learning model, different groups of roughly 50 educators participated in a) an extended interactive webinar (3 hours), b) a ‘flipped’ face-to-face workshop (3 hours), or c) an enhanced face-to-face conference session (1 hour). Attendees will compare and analyze results, brainstorm improvements, and discuss application of these models to other professional development content/topics. Before the session, attendees are encouraged to ‘flip their PD’ by completing tasks listed at: https://flipping4literacy.wordpress.com/flipcon15/
