Flipping movies: why and how?

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Material : Movies
Levels: Pre intermediate - Advanced

Apart from the fun time the students can have, movies represent a rich and lively material that can boost, at a faster pace, the students’ language and build some of their basic leadership skills

Unlike the academic curriculum, movies provide us with an exciting content that mixes :
a- Formal and informal language
b- Wise quotes
c- Informative shots or scenes
d- Grammar in use

Visual stimulation :
Many studies have conclusively proven that the students in this Age are more likely to be visual and auditory learners. Thus, movies can be very efficient to deliver the intended message in a more exciting way.

How to flip movies :
The students watch the movie in class, where we create a very movie-theater - like setting.

Out-class activities : (Part 1 of the flip)

1- The students watch some shots to answer listening comprehension questions (from basic questions to intensive).
2- Script quotes : the students work on the target language
3- Pronunciation practice.

In class activities : (Part 2 of the flip)

1- SHAC : ( acronym that refers to : share, help, ask and collaborate)
2- Feedback
3- Critical thinking activities
4- Creativity (role playing and problem solving)
